Candidates for admission to the Science & Technology Studies Major must submit an application for admission to the Major and complete ONE S&TS course. S&TS First-year Writing Seminars may count as the prerequisite, but not as part of the major. There are no other prerequisites, but students should plan to fulfill the science (PBS) and quantitative (MQR) requirements of the College of Arts & Sciences early in their college careers in order to be in a position to take additional science or engineering courses as outlined on the application.
The application process includes the following steps:
- A completed S&TS Online Application form consisting of:
- personal and academic information
- a tentative plan of courses that fulfill the S&TS requirements, including courses
you have taken and those you plan to take.
- A current transcript from Cornell University (and elsewhere if credits are being
transferred). Go to https://registrar.cornell.edu/grades-transcripts/ordering-transcripts to learn how to obtain a transcript. We accept E-Transcripts, or a copy can be emailed to sts-dept@cornell.edu.
The Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Undergraduate Coordinator are available to answer questions about the S&TS Major and to provide assistance. When a student is accepted into the major, they are assigned a Science & Technology Studies faculty advisor who can assist with course scheduling. The major will only consider students who have submitted complete applications.
